FAQ

What takes place in a typical class?

Classes typically begin with an instructor led warm up, which might include joggin/skipping and different simple movements to mobilise the body. The instructor will then lead students through a series of demonstrations of techniques, followed by time for students to practise these with a partner as the coach comes around to see the students individually, answering questions and giving corrections. Following technique practise, students usually do sparring practise.

I’m not very fit at the moment, can i still take part?

Yes, absolutely. We are really passionate about helping people to make positive changes to their lifestyle and becoming healthier through training. Through regular attendance, your fitness will quickly improve. Our beginner’s classes will be the best place to start, as these are paced at the level for new-starters who might be a bit out of practise. You will be given lots of help to develop your fundamental skills and develop all areas of fitness. We have students of all ages, sizes, and levels of ability.

Is it safe?

Accidental bumps and injuries do occur through contact sports training, as with any sport. We take all the appropriate precautions and all students are directed to exercise control during training, particular during sparring, meaning that it is overall unlikely that you will sustain serious injury during a session.

What kit will i need?

It is vital you invest in the correct equipment prior to participation in classes. For Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: a gi (recommended brands include Tatami Fightwear, Scramble, Valor) and a white belt. You will also need a rashguard to go under the gi, and a gumshield. If you are taking part in No-gi classes you will need BJJ/ MMA Shorts and Rashguard, and a gumshield. For Thai Boxing: 16oz boxing gloves and shin/instep guards, gumshield, groin guard and Thai boxing shorts. It is recommended that you wear handwraps under the gloves.  For MMA you will need BJJ/MMA Shorts, rashguard, 16oz boxing gloves, shin/instep guards, gumshield and groin guard.

I want to compete/ fight professionally. Can I achieve this?

If you put the time in and reach the required standard, then yes. Whilst most of our students train recreationally, we do have an established team of athletes who compete from novice to professional level in BJJ, Thai Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts. If this is your goal, we will give you all the guidance and training required to achieve this as a longer term goal.
